Military career: Thanks to: Jim Tuckwell
Private Henry Hall: originally enlisted into The King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

Thanks to the ongoing search by David Evans from Walsall Wood he was able to contact Andrea Clarke who contributed some information about Henry Hall to the local Brownhillsbob site. And also to get in touch with Janet Stringer a niece of Henry Hall also from Walsall Wood.
Also an almost “forgotten” Roll of Honour from Walsall Wood Working Men's Club with the name of Henry Hall was found. It had been very kindly donated by local lady Gladys Preece to David Evans, who restored it and put it at Walsall Wood Football Club for proudly public display.
Andrea Clarke:
Henry HALL
Private 4037280
9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry
Died in Holland on Wednesday 17 January 1945
Henry was born on Wednesday 3 March 1915, the son of Samuel and Olive May (née Kettle) Hall of 120, Walsall Road, Walsall Wood, his father being a coal mine hewer. A brickworks labourer, he was serving in the Durham Light Infantry at the outbreak of war. Henry was killed during Operation Blackcock, his battalion being given the task of advancing northwards to secure Echt, Schillberg and Susteren in an effort to bring the Allied line up to the River Roer. On Tuesday 9 January 1945 a raiding party from Henry’s battalion advanced towards Isenbruch. The night time raid, which intended to capture German soldiers, was a disaster. A creeping barrage fell short forcing the patrol to seek refuge in a dyke, then the patrol walked into a minefield. So many casualties were incurred that the patrol returned without having seen the enemy. At 7.30am on Tuesday 16 January 1945 his battalion continued their advanced and crossed a river, the Vloed Beek, using ladders. They then attacked and secured the village of Dieteren with comparative ease, the only resistance being met being by way of mortar fire. Casualties were light with only 3 reported deaths.
Henry was buried in Mook War Cemetery, south of Nijmegan, in Grave III.B.2 on Monday 23 June 1947 from a battlefield burial at Bakenhoven. He was 29 years of age and is commemorated on the Walsall, Walsall Wood Working Men’s Club War Memorial now in Walsall Wood Football Club.
